Welcome to Kaysersberg
Kaysersberg is a small historic village in the Haut-Rhin department of Alsace, in the Grand Est region of north-eastern France. It sits at the mouth of the Weiss valley, where the river leaves the Vosges foothills, a short distance west of Colmar and directly on the Alsace Wine Route.
The village grew up beneath a fortified castle, the Château de Kaysersberg, whose keep still stands on the hill above the rooftops. Below it, a compact centre of half-timbered houses, stone façades and a fortified bridge over the Weiss is surrounded on three sides by vineyards that climb the slopes almost to the first houses. Wine growing has shaped the place for centuries, and the cellars, tasting rooms and winstubs in the old town reflect that.
Administratively, Kaysersberg is now part of the commune of Kaysersberg Vignoble, formed when neighbouring villages merged; visitors will still see and hear the historic name used for the village itself. In December the centre hosts a Christmas market that draws considerable numbers of visitors into streets built for far fewer people.

From Kaysersberg
Kaysersberg is rarely visited alone. These are the places most closely tied to it, and the ones most often combined with it in a single trip.
- Colmar
- The largest town in the area and the usual base for visitors arriving by train. Kaysersberg sits a short drive west, up the valley.
